Most Boring Game Ever At BMO By B-Red, on June 28th, 2010 0 – 0
Watching a lot of World Cup probably made it worse, but Saturday’s game between Toronto FC and the LA Galaxy could easily rate as the most forgettable performance in the Reds history. Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle were absent upfront for LA, and their understudies never really threatened to raise the pace and threat on attack. Toronto FC was resilient in defending, but just as inept as LA on offence as well. Lacklustre TFC passing meant LA’s midfield scooped up dozens of turnovers and neither side ever seemed to generate or sustain much tempo for creative attacking.
If there was rioting downtown Saturday night, the peaceful sit-in seemed to happen at BMO Field. The teams fought to a sloppy and mostly non-confrontational draw in midfield. The stands stayed jovial and even seemed pleased with the dull match. Ironically, it was a real pleasure to attend the game. Not even rain falling through the final 20 minutes could dampen the pleasure of watching the game live in our home stadium. The World Cup continues for a few weeks more, but the return of our local boys and MLS action is sweet indeed.
