Cut the bull

NY Red Bulls vs  Toronto FC

Gordon Game Again?

Alan Gordon seems to be on the roster of players making the excursion to New York for today’s match. His reappearance as a starter would be the best hope TFC will have of making it a contest. The Reds will need to score a few goals, at least, to stay in this match. It’s no secret the depleted corps of defenders will be stretched yet again, and the Red Bulls will be charging at them all night.

Confidence Carry-over

A TFC win seems very unlikely tonight. The best I’m willing to hope for is that the two victories this team notched against the Whitecaps will carry over in the team’s approach to the competition. Prior to succeeding against Vancouver last week, the Reds were looking a bit hang-dog and hopeless. This was especially true after giving up first and or early goals to their opponents.

The Red Bulls, coincidentally, have been quick and early scorers this season. To counter, the Reds will have to bring some desire to win to the pitch. They seem to fare better on the road, and perhaps they can surprise everyone with a bit more hunger for success. The back line will be tested, and likely bested, so the confidence and competitiveness of the entire squad will be on the line.

If TFC can hang together and play with heart, this match could be a close one. If they are beaten early, it could get ugly.

Prediction > NYRB 3 – 1 TFC
